Removing the front wheel on a bike is not a very complex task but, since there are a few things that can be noted about it (besides what is stated in the Service Manual), I thought it worthwhile to provide a Web page on the subject. The bike being worked on in this example is an '07 Street Bob.

Scissor jack under front part of frame to lift wheel.
Be careful to not pinch wiring or clutch cable with jack. Front brake caliper already removed (10mm socket needed).

Left (nut-side) spacer removed after partially pulling out axle.
Clamping bolts on right side already loosened (5mm Allen key needed). The spacer on this side is slightly thicker than the one on the other.

Axle removed and spacer coming free.
(when putting wheel back on, the caliper doesn't fit, it might be you got the spacers reversed accidentally.

Bike securely held, with front wheel removed, caliper hanging from handlebar.

While front wheel is off, this is a good time to
check the front engine mounts for tightness.
